TEAM ASPIRING SPECIAL EDUCATION LEADERS INSTITUTE (ASELI)

TEAM ASELI Cohort #1

ASELI has traditionally focused on special education teachers or coordinators. Through a partnership with the Center on Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) and support from the CELL School Leadership Initiative (CSLI) grant, we are excited to expand the model to include five school-based teams, each consisting of a special education teacher or coordinator and a building-level administrator who holds an administrative license and is actively leading in the same school.

Informed by CSLI’s emphasis on school-based leadership development, teams will work collaboratively throughout the ASELI year to strengthen special education leadership within their school while also deepening the leadership skills, shared understanding, and instructional coherence of both team members.

By applying for the TEAM ASELI program, you and your supervisor understand all requirements of this program:

    1. Attend monthly virtual sessions one full day per month (typically the second Wednesday of the month).
    2. Collaborate with your assigned ASELI mentor and maintain a shared professional learning log.
    3. Conference participation: The teacher or coordinator must attend both the Fall and Spring ICASE Conferences. Registration fees are covered by the ASELI grant.
    4. Engage actively with other ASELI teams, including participation in structured cross-team discussions and learning activities. Present a group capstone project.
    5. Participate in High-Leverage Practices sessions, including discussion and application activities.
    6. Complete assigned readings each month.
    7. Administrator mentorship check-ins: The building administrator will participate in scheduled check-ins with a CELL mentor focused on leadership practice, implementation, and school-level problem-solving.
    8. Teachers / coordinators will participate in a job shadowing experience with mentor.
    9. Protect confidentiality of students, families, and staff in all discussions and professional log entries.
In return, you will also receive:
    • One year complimentary ICASE membership
    • Networking with Directors of Special Education across Indiana
    • New perspectives in special education referral, identification, and services

ASELI TEAM participants who are chosen for this program and have completed all parts of the program will be compensated $3,000 (each), paid in 2 installments. If substitute teachers are necessary in order for you to attend, ASELI will reimburse the school corporation a daily rate of $100.
